Using real-life case studies to identify the characteristics of strong community development corporations (CDCs), "Building Durable CDCs in Philadelphia" focused on the critical role of leadership in building and supporting durable organizations. Like its precursors, this gathering examined why some high-profile CDCs experienced serious management challenges of various kinds, with in-depth analyses presented by those who were most involved with the organizations at that time. The conference also highlighted contrasting approaches to leadership by examining the cases of high profile CDCs that addressed crisis in very different ways - and acheived very different results. This summary of conference proceedings provides overviews of each case study and the discussions of conference participants about them.
