Economic Development Initiatives
LISC’s economic development initiatives and tools run the gamut from direct
project financing and investments of equity products like the New Markets Tax
Credit to technical assistance in redeveloping business districts and commercial
corridors.
LISC has created the Commercial District Revitalization Initiative (CDRI) to address issues of blight, safety, real estate development, access to capital, business technical assistance, and business development in three commercial corridors. The three corridors are:
- Burnet Avenue (Avondale) where work with organizations like the Avondale Community Council, Avondale Redevelopment Corporation, Christ Hospital and Uptown Consortium;
- The Gateway District (Vine Street and Main Street in Over-the-Rhine) where we work closely with the Over-the-Rhine Chamber of Commerce, Over-the-Rhine Community Housing, Mercy Housing and 3CDC. and,
- Warsaw Avenue (Price Hill) where we work with organizations like Price Hill Will, the East Price Hill Assembly and the Price Hill Civic Club.
LISC partners with the community in these areas to develop vacant, abandoned, and under-utilized properties; provide business development, loan packaging, and technical assistance to businesses in the district; collaborate with the Cincinnati Police Department (CPD), merchants, residents, and other stakeholders to reduce crime and perception of crime in the districts; and work to build the capacity and self-sufficiency of the community business-oriented groups.
