Historic Kansan to Become Lofts
City Vision Ministries will write a new page in Kansas history with the redevelopment of the historic Kansan Newspaper Building located at 901 N. 8th Street in downtown Kansas City, KS. The Kansan Lofts & Art Studios will feature 21 units - 15 loft-style condominiums and six artist studio spaces - and offer buyers another option in urban contemporary living and working space.
"The availability of historic buildings in downtown Kansas City, Kansas, including the old City Hall and the Kansan Newspaper building, presented the opportunity to build upon the character of downtown creating a mixed-use urban community," said John Harvey, City Vision Ministries President.
Reservations currently are being accepted, and interested individuals should call Tom Scanlon at 913.205.1937. The project targets entry level loft buyers and artists who would like to own their studio rather than rent space. A property tax rebate program with special financing is available.
The condominium loft units will range in price from the mid $90,000s to the $180,000s. They will include a variety of floor plans for both one- and two-bedroom units ranging in size from 600 to 1,200 square feet with ceilings heights from 10 to 12 feet. Interior upgrade packages and additional storage will be available.
Six art studios are available on the lower level of the building and present a unique option for artists who are looking to own their work space. Art studio units range in price from $82,000 to $110,000 with 850 to 1,600 square feet.
Built in 1927, the Kansan housed the area's only newspaper plant and was home to The Kansas City Kansan newspaper for 74 years. A gothic-style structure built of red brick, it has been one of the jewels of historic architecture in downtown KCK.
