In the Spotlight
NeighborhoodsNOW Redevelopment Plans in KCK are Getting Noticed

Greater Kansas City LISC and NeighborhoodsNOW have received extensive press coverage recently. The March 24th issue of the Kansas City Kansan featured two articles on the DASH Project underway in Douglass-Sumner - one on the student project itself and another on long-time Douglass-Sumner resident and Tuskegee airman Mr. Ozell Hawkins, who was interviewed for the project.

The February 6th issue of the Kansas City Star Wyandotte Neighborhood News section, featured the announcement of $1.5 Million in federal funding to support NeighborhoodsNOW initiatives in Kansas City, Kansas. The Douglass-Sumner neighborhood will be the primary beneficiary of $1.2 Million in HUD funding. Complementing these development efforts will be enhanced crime and safety initiatives for the three NeighborhoodsNOW communities in KCK thanks to a $329,000 Justice Department appropriation.

WDAF Fox-4 News the featured a segment on the Douglass-Sumner redevelpment plans on February 8th and 9th. The media segments featured interviews with Julie Porter, Greater Kansas City LISC executive director and Beatrice Lee, Neighborhood Association president.  The special report can be viewed on on the Fox-4 News website

Additionally, the redevelopment of Downtown KCK was featured on the front page of the February 1-7th Kansas City Business Journal and was the cover feature in the February issue of the Urban Times magazine. Greater Kansas City LISC is proud to be a primary funder of the Downtown Shareholders and their efforts to revitalize Downtown KCK.  Downtown KCK was chosen as a NeighborhoodsNOW target area and their Quality of Life Plan was completed in 2006.  Subsequently, that Quality of Life Plan was formally adopted as part of the larger Downtown Master Plan. Congratulations to Chris Carucci and his team on the great progress they've made raising the profile of Downtown KCK's redevelopment plans - a key goal of their Quality of Life Plan.
