Missouri Housing Trust Fund to be a Priority

The Missouri Housing Trust Fund was established to assist persons or families below 50% of area median income, adjusted for family size.  Projects and services the Trust Fund has been able to provide are homeless prevention, construction/rehabilitation of low income affordable and accessible housing, rental assistance and home repair.

During the past funding cycle, the Missouri Housing Development Commission received applications from 197 agencies requesting $18.1 million dollars.  They were able to fund only 76 agencies, with $5 million dollars.

We are pleased that the Missouri Legislature will explore this issue in more depth this summer. Senator Gibbons has created a Senate Select Committee to Study the MO Housing Trust Fund.  The committee's purpose is to "examine ways to improve on the effectiveness of the Missouri Housing Trust Fund as well as examine means to increase funding thereof."  The committee may meet beginning this summer (that information is up to the committee chairman and has yet to be decided) and will consist of five members - three from the majority and two from the minority.

Stay tuned for more information.
