In October of 1983, leadership of several neighborhood organizations,
churches, and business leaders northeast KCMO came together
to begin planning for a new community development corporation,
which could carry out housing and community programs. In October
1984, Old Northeast, Inc., was incorporated as a Missouri
not-for-profit organization.

Proudest
Achievement
The
EDC Cornerstone Award given to Old Northeast, Inc., in 2001
symbolizes the best of Kansas City's economic development
projects. Carroll Square is a large-scale, one-block square
of new homes ($100,000 or less) constructed on Newton Street
between 7th and 8th Streets, just south of Independence Avenue
and the old Armco Steel Plant. This was a severely blighted
area. The old Clay School was standing there, literally falling
down brick-by-brick. It was a safety hazard.
Priorities
for 2008-2009
ONE will be focusing our attention on crime prevention and safety programs as the affordable housing program we utilized to develop new in-fill housing is reorganized. ONE continues to develop and implement new programs that meet the needs of our community.
