AmeriCorps

Americorps LogoLISC is a national sponsor of the AmeriCorps national services program, proposed as the domestic Peace Corps by former President Clinton, in order to introduce young people to careers in community development.

The AmeriCorps programs meets two of the most important human capital needs of the industry: First, the program works to enable CDCs to confront and deal with existing needs in their surrounding neighborhoods. This is achieved by placing AmeriCorps members who are dedicated to improving neighborhoods at CDCs. Second, by providing extensive training and an entry-level opportunity, the program expands the pool of trained and committed community development professionals, particularly among people of color and those from communities served by the CDCs.

LISC Los Angeles is in its 12th year of placing individuals who are interested in working in their communities with community development corporations (CDCs).  The partnership with the CDCs provides the organizations with an additional staffing resource and gives many AmeriCorps members their first exposure to and hands-on experience in the field of community development.
