Good schools, child care centers, parks and playing fields are requirements for every healthy neighborhood. They provide residents with a reason to stay, a source of pride, a convenient necessity, and an expectation of a predictable and desirable future. LISC and CDCs have been in the forefront of advocating and implementing the development of such institutions for years, and LISC has established programs to make that process more efficient and effective. They include:
- In 1994 LISC established the Community Investment Collaborative for Kids (CICK) to offer financial and technical assistance to develop new, quality child care facilities in neighborhoods that need them.
- LISC’s Educational Facilities Financing Center (EFFC) finances charter and alternative school development.
- The NFL Grassroots Program, a partnership between LISC and the National Football League’s Youth Football Fund, provides grants and technical assistance for the creation or redevelopment of community football fields.
