Technical Assistance through Regional Partnerships
In the past, LISC has sponsored green design charettes, provided local LISC offices with funds from the Home Depot Foundation to support green building projects, and explored how to provide financing packages that leverage the long-term value of high performance design in communities.
When starting a construction project, many of the cost premiums associated with a "green" building are minimized. LISC funds are intended to foster projects that go past many basic green building ideas and involve new technologies and techniques. Contact us for more information.
Regional Partnerships
Earthpledge
Earthpledge has begun discussions with LISC about possible participation in, and management of, the Viridian Loan Fund, a new source of capital for installation of green roofs in multi-family affordable housing projects. Green roofs yield several benefits, including energy efficiency, better storm water management, green open space, and healthier indoor air.
Global Green, USA
LISC and Global Green, USA, as part of a High Performance Schools Partnership, are launching an LA Green Charter Schools Pilot Project, which will initially green five charter schools in Los Angeles.
New Ecology, Inc.
LISC helped fund “The Costs and Benefits of Green Affordable Housing,” a groundbreaking national study by New Ecology and the Tellus Institute. LISC is also working with New Ecology, Inc. to provide CDCs in several LISC programs outside Boston with early design guidance and on-the-ground assistance with construction of green project components.
Southface Energy Institute
LISC and Southface have teamed up to provide green training in the Gulf to local housing authorities needing to significantly step up new production. Rural LISC has also retained Southface to provide services to four rural CDCs working in the Gulf after the hurricanes. These services will be tailored to the specific needs and capacities of these CDCs, and will result in greener new units.
