  • LISC's AmeriCorps program and the National Association of Vietnamese American Service Agencies (NAVASA) are supporting 20 AmeriCorps volunteers in New Orleans, Biloxi and Houston, where they're helping Vietnamese immigrants rebuild communities damaged by hurricanes Rita and Katrina. An additional 15 AmeriCorps members have been placed with community groups through LISC's Mid South Delta and Rural programs.
  • Houston LISC is working with three CDCs to provide hurricane evacuees with transitional and permanent housing and access to public resources.
  • LISC's Housing Authority Resource Center (HARC) has conducted training sessions on redevelopment with public housing agencies in Houston; Baton Rouge; Birmingham, Ala.; Jackson, Miss.; and South Florida.
  • Rural LISC has provided direct staff training and technical advice to CDCs since days after the first hurricane struck.
